Cocker Spaniels are intelligent, loving, and loyal. They are the perfect addition to any family no matter how big or small the family is. Bringing a Cocker Spaniel into your home is an exciting experience. First things first though, you have to be able to choose a breeder to get your new puppy from. You want to rest assure that you are obtaining a healthy puppy from a reputable breeder. The only way to do this is to take the time to research all of the breeders near you.
Plan on spending an entire afternoon on the telephone calling the breeders. Make sure that you have a pen and a notebook with you so you can take notes and jot down the pros and cons of each breeder. Ask a lot of questions. The more that they know about the breed, the better you should feel. Also ask them if they can provide you will the full medical history of both parents. If they answer no move onto the next breeder, if they can provide this information go to your next question.
Never ever buy a puppy from a breeder that will not invite you into their home so that you can observe the puppy in its natural environment. If the breeder will not let you in then the living area must not be up to par. Never settle on the first breeder that you come across. A puppy is a member of your family you are going to want to have them with you for as long as possible.
