Meeting the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel

Cavalier King Charles Spaniels are a very well-known dog breed, and if you want to have one for a pet, a puppy makes a good choice. The Cavalier King Charles Spaniel is a cheerful and sociable dog that gets on well with people, other dogs and cats. Make sure that you get your dog from a reputable breeder, either recommended by someone who is also satisfied with the spaniel he/she got, or vouched for by the Kennel Club of Great Britain. All Cavalier breeders have to abide by a code of ethics, and send correct and verifiable information to owners.

First of all, go for a spaniel only if you are willing to commit your time and effort in raising it. If you happen to have young kids, breeders recommend that you would make a better choice in an older dog than a puppy, since Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies are so small and delicate. Being so smart, the breed is very trainer-friendly. Adults will appreciate frequent walks, but not so long since the dogs are so small. Check also whether a male or female dog will suit your household: a male puppy frees up the dog owner from having to think of the female’s half yearly season. Males on the other hand are territorial and will mark their territory, peeing even indoors unless you intervene with appropriate house training or King Charles Spaniel Training.

When you finally pick your puppy, expect the breeder (if he/she is a professional and responsible one) to pass on to you information on three generations of the dog’s ancestors, feeding information that is verified correct, a vaccination certificate and dates of worming along with other important information.

At last, you can now take your dog home! If you have a garden at home, fix any large-enough holes on the fence that might tempt the dog to bolt the yard. An example of a good bed for the dog’s first night is a cardboard box with one side cut out. Put in some clean bedding so that the puppy is comfortable. Your dog’s bed ideally has to be confined to the same place, but try to choose a place that will facilitate house training and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Training in the early days. Good luck with your beautiful and magnetic Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
