Vaccinations for Cocker Spaniel

Vaccinations are a very important part of every breed’s life. These are the shots that make sure your puppy does not contract a potentially fatal disease. Disease like distemper, and rabies are two of the common illnesses that vaccines are administered to prevent.

While both of these diseases are deadly to your Cocker Spaniel, rabies can also be fatal to humans. Your dog can contract rabies, and pass it on to you; you become infected and by the time your dog shows any symptoms of the sickness, it is going to be too late to save your life.
While it is expected for the normal breed to have either a new vaccine or a booster for one thing or another at their annual checkups, the Cocker Spaniel has to be treated differently. Since it is already prone to a good deal of the autoimmune diseases you have to think twice about the amount of shots this breed gets. A lot of veterinarians and scientists believe that over vaccinating any dog can lead to autoimmune diseases. This makes all the extra vaccines even worse for the Cocker Spaniel, who is already prone to such issues. Talk to your veterinarian and ask them if there is a possibility of boosters every three years as opposed to annually. If the vet tells you “no”, get a second opinion.
Whatever route you decide took, either the one year boosters or the three year booster, it is still just as important for you to get the initial vaccination. Take care of your Cocker Spaniel; give them everything that they need to be healthy and happy. You will be surprised at just how fast they work their way into your heart.
